DATABASE INFORMATION

The database is made available with all sorts of indexations, thus enabling ease of identification for the serious researcher.

The contained information is primarily based on first- and second-hand sources such as church records, probates, and censuses. This should be as correct as possible. But, as we move farther back in time, the sources are becoming sparse, thus necessitating some estimations.

From the time before the church records (before 1680), assertations of relationships are progressively becoming more based on the accuracy of the sources used (mainly rural chronicles).

Therefore, name similarities may occur, yet, still the information is taken into the database. This is done on the basis that several researchers have found the same information to be the most correct (although factual evidence for the multiple persons existence may not be produced).

Source citations are given to the largest degree possible in the database. In many cases complete pages are rewritten from the church records.

WOMEN'S LAST NAME

In the database the ending 'sen' (son) has consequently been used for women's last name, although the name 'datter' (daughter) has been used in the church record.

This has been done to facilitate the indexation of the database, and to create congruity for all children in the family. Also it is done to reduce the number of names in the Surname List of the database.

In the period of 1840-1870 where 'patronymika froze' (patronymika = father's first name is the son's last name - with a 'sen', or 'datter' for women), the church records have been the basis.

In the cases where there has been uncertainty, the father's first name has been used as the son's/daughter's last name.
